Model 3250 Thermal Desorption System

This website describes the revolutionary capabilities of the new Model 3200/3250 Thermal Desorption (Texas2Step) system available from Microanalytics, the industry leader in systems and software dealing with aroma and malodor analysis by GC/MS and GC/MS-Olfactometry.

Introducing the Model 3250 Thermal Desorption System

As of 2009, the Model 3200 thermal desorption system has been superseded by the new Model 3250.  With a simpler, more robust pneumatics design, the 3250 offers the user:

  • Simpler and more inert carrier/desorption gas flow path.

  • Simpler change-over from thermal desorption mode to liquid injection (10 minutes)

  • Easier installation and maintenance.

  • Innovative flow path allows removal of the desorption tube after desorption cycle is complete.  This reduces carryover, and introduction of residual materials into the inlet.  An "inlet backflush" is initiated at this point to sweep the inlet area of any contamination.

  • New inlet adapter, tray adapter and purge point design for better tube handling.

  • New tube design to allow for easier and more reproducible packing.

  • More cost effective alternative to the Gerstel TDU for desorption of the SBSE-Twister™ (Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction).

Introduction

The Model 3250 is adaptable to any standard Agilent Model 6890/7890 GC.  It utilizes the base plate of a G1552A/G3452A split/splitless inlet with EPC; which can be an existing injector or added as a new injector to the front or rear inlet position of an existing instrument.

The name Texas2Step is derived from the fact that this system has the optional ability to sample as well as desorb the trapped sample during a completely automated process.  No other commercially available thermal desorption system for GC has this blend of unique abilities.

Features and Benefits

The Model 3200/3250 systems offers the user a number of unique features not found in other TD systems:

  • Automated Sampling and Desorption/Injection processes.

  • Direct desorption into the column, no cryo-coolant or expensive PTV inlet necessary.

  • Adaptable to a standard Agilent Technologies split/splitless inlet (G1552A/G3452A).

  • Quick change from thermal desorption mode to standard liquid injection mode.

  • Robust stainless steel construction (inlet and sample tubes) eliminates costly breakage.

  • Proprietary passivation techniques offers better than glass inertness and prevents sample degradation.

  • Pre-purge mode removes residual air/oxygen from tube before desorption.

  • Robotically controlled with the industry standard CTC/LEAP Technologies CombiPAL or DI.PAL autosampler systems.
